About

STATEMENT

I create with many tools: scrapers, palette knives, brushes, and other mark-making instruments. I also enjoy digital processes and layering photographs, textures, scans of original paintings, and more. The resulting layers of either process reflect the colors, patterns and textures found in nature – a reprieve from the daily hustle. Their abstract nature echoes my own desire to step away and clear my head, or even daydream. My goal is always to create art that takes me away, works where I imagine being in touch with the earth – moving through grass, watching rustling leaves, gazing on a landscape – simple things the soul can enjoy. And a place to hear one’s own voice.

Christine O’Brien is a visual artist who combines in varying degrees acrylics, mixed media painting, collage, and digital technology. Whether a tactile painting or a digital collage,  her contemporary, abstract works are inspired by the textures and patterns found in nature.

Christine brings her diverse artistic skill set together to produce paintings, prints, and contemporary design collections.

Raised just north of Boston, MA, Christine graduated from Salem State College with a degree in Communications and Graphic Design and embarked on a design career. She has nearly 30 years experience designing print and online graphics.
In 2007 she decided to focus on her own art, and has since participated in solo and group shows, and juried exhibitions. She works from her studio in Beverly, MA.
